GREENFIELD — Mary E. (Gilley) Bateman, 88, passed away Friday at Brandywine Nursing Home in Greenfield. She was born Dec. 8, 1924, the daughter of the late James Gilley. Mary was a graduate of Washington High School and retired in 1989 as a secretary for the Armour Star Company. She was a member of the Central Christian Church. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, George C. Bateman; a daughter, Jane Herbst of Greenfield; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter Rebecca “Becky” Bateman; brothers Carl and Lional Gilley; and sister Martha Joyce. No services are scheduled at this time.
