LOOGOOTEE — James Edmund "Ed" Craney, 83, died at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. Born Aug. 19, 1929, in Daviess County, he was the son of William W. and Hazel (Todd) Craney. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church in Whitfield. He was a retired farmer and a diesel mechanic for Clairmont Trucking in Jasper. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball, watching old westerns on TV and playing rummy and euchre. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Ann (Dwyer) Craney, whom he married Sept. 25, 1954; three sons, Richard E. and wife Phyllis Craney of Jasper, Larry W. and wife Toni Craney and Jerry L. and wife Sue Craney, all of Loogootee; four sisters, Margie Fegan of Arizona, Patsy Frye of Franklin, Bernadette Abel and Deanie Trowbridge, both of Washington; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Donald, Martin T. and Leo Craney; two sisters, Marie Arvin and Dorothy Benjamin; and infant twin brother and sister, Joe and Rita Craney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Martin Catholic Church in Whitfield. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
