LOOGOOTEE — James L. “Jim” Lents, 70, died at 7:57 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Hospital in Jasper. Born Nov. 30, 1941, in Loogootee, he was the son of John Lewis and Pauline M. (Burch) Lents. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Loogootee and attended St. John’s Catholic High School. He spent the biggest part of his life in the grocery business working for the Jay C Food Store and Buehler Food Store. He enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals baseball games, going to IU basketball games and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Jane (Woodruff) Lents, whom he married Oct. 20, 1977; one daughter, Amy Lents of Bloomington; two sons, James Lents of Loogootee and Robert Lents of North Carolina; one brother, Paul Lents of Indiana; two sisters, Edna Hembree of Loogootee and Sandy Lents of Huntingburg; and five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Catholic Church in Loogootee. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Barr Township in Daviess County. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee.
