Russell Clarence Burris, 78, Washington, died at 1:50 p.m. Thursday at Golden Living Center, Petersburg.
Born June 22, 1931, in Reeve Township, he was the son of Clarence and Laverne (Patrick) Burris.
He attended Alfordsville High School and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. A member of New Hope Christian Church, he owned and operated Burris Heating and Air Conditioning for 25 years and Burris Fencing Company for 10 years. A member of White River Valley Antique Association, he was a charter member of the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as fire chief for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth (Wagner) Burris, whom he married Nov. 13, 1954; two sons, Dennis Burris of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Craig Burris of Washington; three grandchildren, Veronica Burris, Valerie Burris and VeJay Burris; one sister, Joyce Selby of Hazelton; and one brother, Gerald Burris of Jasper.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at New Hope Christian Church, with Bros. Russ Jordan and Dick Smith officiating. Burial will be in Alfordsville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Gill Chapel and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
