La BELLE, Fla. — Stephen Earl Garland passed away June 20 in LaBelle. He was born March 14, 1944, in Washington, to Mary and Fritz Garland. He graduated from Washington High School in 1962 and was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Indiana University Optometry School and had a practice in Lexington, Ky., where he was also involved in breeding and raising thoroughbred race horses. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Hadi Shrine. He is survived by his former wife, Martha; brother, Richard “Bud” Garland and his wife Ginger. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie, his parents, and his brother, Fred. A private funeral service was held.
