LOOGOOTEE — Virginia Smith, 86, died at 3:50 a.m. Sunday at Loogootee Health Care and Rehab Center. Born May 11, 1926, in Pike County, she was the daughter of Alex and Myrtle (Benjamin) Thomas. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Loogootee and was an avid card player. She is survived by two sons, Dennis Smith of Odon and Joseph Patrick Smith of Washington; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Larry (Ruth) Smith of Loogootee; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Her husband, John M. Smith, died in 1986. Her parents; three sons, Larry, Ronald and Richard Smith; two sisters, Lois Hale and Betty Ault; and one brother, Harrell Thomas, are also deceased. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee. Burial will be in St. John Catholic Cemetery in Loogootee. Visitation is from noon until the hour of service Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Loogootee St. Vincent DePaul food bank.
