LOOGOOTEE — Tom Bell, 86, died at 8:15 a.m. Saturday at his home. Born May 12, 1926, in Elnora, he was the son of Marion “Buck” and Maude (Saul) Bell. He attended Elnora High School and was a World War II Army veteran. He was the owner and operator of the former Bell’s Marathon service station in Loogootee. He was a 50-year member of the Loogootee Fire Department. He enjoyed flowers, working puzzles and spending time with his Shihtzu dogs and his grandchildren. He is survived by one daughter, Nancy and husband Rob Sterling of Loogootee; one son, Bob and wife Susan Bell of Loogootee; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His wife, Mary Lou (Norris) Bell, whom he married July 7, 1956, preceded him in death. The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee. Burial will be in St. John Catholic Cemetery in Loogootee, with military graveside rites by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the Loogootee American Legion and V.F.W. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Martin County Humane Society.
