WASHINGTON —
Melvin Charles “Sonny” Foster, 74, of Washington, died at 10:15 a.m. Monday at Prairie Village Nursing Center, Washington.
He cut pulp wood in his youth and worked at Jasper Desk Company in the early 1960s. He was self-employed doing trash service for the Vincennes Plaza. He also helped his brother in the tree-trimming business before retiring.
He was born Feb. 2, 1938, in Pike County, to Claud and Diane (Russell) Foster.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie; one son, Stacy Wayne Foster of Washington; one daughter, Tonya Romans of Washington; four step-children, Raymond Hudson, LeaAnne Rego, Donald Hudson and Shelley Rice, all of Washington; four grandsons, two granddaughters, one great-grandson, six step-grandsons, three step-granddaughters, three step-great grandsons and one step-great granddaughter; three brothers, Posey W. Foster of Indianapolis, Patrick J. Foster and Adrian O. Foxter, both of Washington; and one sister, Claudette F. Selby, of Birds, Ill.
One brother died in infancy and one sister was stillborn. He was also preceded in death by the mother of his children, Thelma Jane (Conley) Foster.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with David Foster officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
