WASHINGTON — Mary Jean Hinkle, 87, of Washington, passed into eternity on Wednesday at her residence.

She was the daughter of William S. and Cdv (Leonard) Hart and was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Ray Hart, formerly of Washington.

Her husband of 60 years, Don Hinkle, whom she married on Oct. 1, 1950, passed away in 2010.

She was a graduate of Washington High School in 1942 and St. Mary’s Nursing School  in 1945. She assisted Dr. Vance Chattin as a registered nurse in his office practice for many years and later worked as a nurse supervisor for the Washington Nursing Center.

She is survived by her brother Bill Hart and his wife Audrey of Bloomington, Ill., and a sister-in-law Fay Ledbetter of Washington, as well as several nieces and nephews and good friends who will miss her dearly. She loved reading, hiking, camping, and traveling and was an accomplished bowler, winning the Washington Ladies’ Bowling League Championship in 1953 and 1954. She was also a member of Central Christian Church.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethany Christian Church Cemetery, the Rev. James Payton officiating. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Christian Church or Helping Hearts Hospice. Gill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
