Lucille Farmer

WASHINGTON — Lucille Nellie (Purdue) Farmer, 95, of Washington, died at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday at Emerald House. Born April 20, 1917, in Harviell, Mo., she was the daughter of Bert and Barbara Ellen (Gress) Purdue. A 1935 graduate of Washington High School, she worked eight years at P.R. Mallory in Indianapolis. During World War II she worked at International Harvester in Indianapolis as a lady supervisor. She retired in 1975 from Harbor State Bank in Safety Harbor, Fla. She was a member of First Christian Church and a 50-year member of Irvington Chapter 364 Order of Eastern Star in Indianapolis. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Lars and Connie Purdue of Washington, Eugene and Susan Taylor of Washington, William and Cheryl Priddy of Morgantown, Don and Joanne Purdue of Bargersville, and Marvin and Barbara Nelson of Somerset, Mich.; and special friend, Issie Whitehead. Her husband, Franklin R. Farmer, whom she married June 2, 1956, died March 15, 1982. One son, Ronald Bennett; one sister, Lottie Taylor; two brothers, Wilbur and Nick Purdue; and one nephew, Jerry Miller, are also deceased. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gill Chapel, with Bro. Byron Holtsclaw officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery, Indianapolis, with an Eastern Star service. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to hospice. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.gillsince1872.com

    Born Sept. 30, 1935, in Daviess, she was the daughter of Arlan V. and Essie (Hardesty) Nolley. She graduated from Montgomery High School in 1953 and retired as a bookkeeper from McDonald Chevrolet in Washington after 43 years of service.
