WASHINGTON — Esther A. Fields Small, 90, of Washington, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday at Eastgate Manor Nursing Center. Born Sept. 23, 1922, in Martin County, she was the daughter of Homer and Mary (Gootee) Mattingly. She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella. She and her first husband owned and operated The Hut in Plainville for several years. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Joy Fields of Alabama; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Fields of Florida; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Robert A. Fields; her second husband, Lewis Small; one son, Robert H. Fields; one sister, Mary Mattingly; and three brothers, Harold Mattingly, John Mattingly and Robert Mattingly. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with Rev. Gordon Mann officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with a Daughter of Isabella rosary at 10 a.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.edleemortuary.com
