WASHINGTON — Richard L. Griffith, 79, of Washington, died at 1:05 p.m. Tuesday at Daviess Community Hospital. Born May 15, 1927, in Monticello, Iowa, he was the son of Clarence and Rebecca (Appleby) Griffith. He served in the U.S. Army and retired as an insurance adjuster for Vernon Insurance Company. He had also taught school in Michigan and at the Job Core in Edinburgh. Survivors include his children, Dan Griffith of Washington, Susan Griffith and her husband Richard Pennycuff of Albany, Ky., Rick Griffith and his wife Julie of Washington, Bonnie Brown and her husband Ken of Washington, Kathie Griffith of Bloomington, Tim Griffith of Washington, and Patty Spangle and her companion John Morrison of Washington; a brother, Dale Griffith of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Joanne (Schmidt) Griffith. There will be no services and burial will be held at a later date in St. John Cemetery in Washington.
