Edna M. Gilmore, 97, died Saturday at 1:30 a.m. at Sullivan County Community Hospital with her family at her bedside.
Born June 18, 1915, in Freelandville, she was the daughter of William and Eva (Wessel) Meier. A 1933 graduate of Freelandville High School, she had worked at Tresslar’s Five and Dime. She was a member of Bicknell Christian Church and attended Carlisle United Methodist Church after moving in with her daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Ralph McCann. She also was a member of Tri Kappa.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and Ralph McCann of Carlisle, Sharon Junod of Vincennes, and Sandra and Larry Riggs of Carmel; a daughter-in-law, Judy Gilmore of Edwardsport; 12 grandchildren, Times Herald staff writer Andrea McCann, Aaron McCann, Melony Gilmore, Donna Hastings, Don Gilmore II, Lori Buskirk, Duke Junod, Julia Conway, Jennifer Halliburton, Johnna Mishelow, Brad Hellyer, and Erik Hellyer; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Edna was preceded in death in 2004 by her husband, Ernest B. Gilmore, whom she married Dec. 20, 1934; a son, Donald R. Gilmore; three brothers; and five sisters.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be at noon today at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel, 118 Washington St., Bicknell, with Revs. Ron Barnes and Mike Irvine officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Church Cemetery, Freelandville.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon today at the funeral home.
