WASHINGTON — Evelyn Fyffe, 88, of Washington, passed away at 12:05 p.m. Saturday at Daviess Community Hospital. Born July 14, 1924, in Washington, she was the daughter of James Everett and Lillian (Gootee) Spaulding. After graduating from Washington Catholic High School in 1942, she worked at St. Simon Rectory for Father Wicke and later at McCord’s Corporation prior to her marriage. On April 25, 1948, she married Walter “Jiggs” Fyffe. (He along with his sister Margaret owned and operate d The New Cafe Bar and Restaurant in Washington for over 35 years.) After her youngest child was in school she went to work for the Washington National Bank for 21 years and retired in 1989 as an assistant cashier. After retirement she volunteered for RSVP and laundered the church linens for 25 years. Evelyn loved her Golden Girls Card Club and her Legion of Mary church group and she loved spending time with her family doin anything. She was a lifelong member of St. Simon/Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, as she was devoted in her faith. She is survived by one daughter, Barb Fyffe of Washington; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Nancy Fyffe of Evansville, Pat Fyffe of Washington, and Mike and Sherry Fyffe of Shelbyville, Tenn.; one sister, Jeanne Jahn of Evansville; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter “Jiggs” Fyffe, and one daughter, Janis Marie Fyffe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with a wake service at 3:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be given to the Washington Catholic Education Endowment.
