Mary Juanita Ferguson


PLAINVILLE — Mary Juanita Ferguson, 93, died at 3:30 a.m. Friday at her residence.

Born Feb. 5, 1916, in Daviess County, she was the daughter of Claud and Martha (Long) Carroll.

She graduated from Plainville High School in 1934. She worked making parachutes during World War II and later was employed by the UniRoyal Company in Washington until her retirement. She married Thomas Ferguson on Dec. 25, 1965, and he preceded her in death in 1995.

Juanita was well-traveled and enjoyed her life as a homemaker. She was an avid Pacers fan. She was a member of the Cornettsville United Methodist Church which she attended with her family.

Survivors include three brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Henrietta Carroll, Donald and Jeanette Carroll, and Jim and Pat Carroll, all of Plainville. Two additional sisters-in-law survive, Virginia Carroll of Plainville and Frances Carroll of Indianapolis. She is also survived by stepdaughter Doris (Dale) Ellis of Dunnellon, Fla., and stepson James Ferguson of Battle Creek, Mich. There are eight stepgrandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Iris Hoop; and three brothers, Russell, Frank and Dixon Carroll. She was also preceded in death by one stepson, Thomas L. Ferguson.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Gill Chapel. Burial will be in Sugarland Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
