Grover Leon “Lee” Hamm, 88, of Washington, died at 8:10 p.m. Tuesday at Washington Nursing Center.
Born Jan. 16, 1921, in Martin County, he was the son of Grover C. and Mary Jane (Brown) Hamm.
He attended Shoals High School and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He owned and operated Hamm Music Store for over 25 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Washington American Legion, VFW and Knights of Columbus. He was a lifelong jazz musician.
He is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Lisa and Michael Wimmenauer and Lori Harrington, all of Columbia, Mo., and Peggy Fogle of Denton, Texas; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis L. and Jean Hamm of Wheatland, Kelly J. and Tami Hamm of Washington, and Randall P. and Shari Hamm of Springfield, Mo.; one sister, Evelyn Tielsort of Media, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
His wife, Magdalene Louise (Holt) Hamm, whom he married Feb. 14, 1948, died July 2, 1997. One granddaughter, Kristin Wimmenauer; one son-in-law, Michael Harrington; and four brothers, Herschel, Ernest, Russell and Elsworth Hamm, are also deceased.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with Rev. Leo Kiesel as celebrant. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Ed Lee Mortuary.
