Lawrence R. Harner


Lawrence R. Harner, 96, of Washington, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at his home.

Born May 12, 1913, in Martin County, he was the son of Ray and Alma (Winninger) Harner.

He attended Hawkins school house in Martin County and Smeltzer school house in Washington. A farmer, he also worked at B&O; Railroad and U.S. Railways. He was a member of United Brethern Church.

He is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Phyllis and Andrew Schuetz of Olney, Ill., and Carolyn Harner of Washington; sons and daughter-in-law, Jerald Harner of Evansville and Wilbur and Kathy Harner of Columbus; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and Lois Harner of Lake Wales, Fla.; and sisters, Norma Jean Traylor of Petersburg and Norma Ela Feuquay of Cape Coral, Fla.

His wife, Autumn Lucille (Wade) Harner, whom he married Feb. 1, 1936, died Sept. 14, 2008. A sister, Marie Harner; two brothers, Walter and Floyd Harner; and an infant granddaughter are also deceased.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gill Chapel, with Rev. Marvin Cheek officiating. Burial will be in Sugarland Memory Gardens.

Visitation is after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
