MONTGOMERY — Dennis E. Folsom, 56, went to be with the Lord after a courageous five-year battle with cancer at 2:30 a.m. Saturday at Loogootee Nursing Center.
Born Dec. 10, 1953, in Linton, he was the son of Harold and Lucille Eileen (Wininger) Folsom.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He had worked for the Greene Coal Company for 16 years, Nasco Industries, and retired from Jasper Rubber. He enjoyed playing his base guitar and had played in several bands. He was a Master Black Belt and taught karate for two years.
He is survived by his wife, Carol (Sauer) Folsom, whom he married Jan. 14, 1979; one son, Eric Folsom of Montgomery; five daughters, Julie Brooks of Montgomery, Amy (Jon) Landis of Thompsontown, Pa., Michelle (Arthur) Corbitt of Montgomery, Rachel (Randy) Morris and Kimberly Folsom, all of Vincennes; three brothers, Bill Folsom of Edinburgh, Bob Folsom (Debbie) of Lawrenceville, Ill., and Fred (Angee) Folsom of Greensburg; four sisters, Pam (Larry) Lagle, Marilyn Hazelwood, Lillie (Randy) Cales, all of Washington, and Lori Withworth of Evansville; and nine grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Erica Folsom, and a sister, Carolyn Durham.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with Rev. Matt Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery in Montgomery, with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion and V.F.W.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
