Richard Burger

Richard William Burger, 66, of Washington, died at 7:05 a.m. Thursday at Daviess Community Hospital.

Born Jan. 12, 1943, he was the son William Roman and Agnus (Fleck) Burger.

A graduate of Trinity High School in Louisville, Ky., he was an Army veteran and a retired manager and area advisor with Auto Zone stores in Washington and Jasper. He was also a member and trustee of Church on the Way.

He married Donna Sue (Vowell) Burger on May 15, 1982 and she survives.

Survivors include a son, Jeffrey and Robin Jones of Washington; four daughters, Joelyn (Jones) and Brandt Powden of Washington, Carol Ann and David Linton of Louisville, Karen Jean and Tony Amshoff of Louisville and Cynthia and Dan Cole of Louisville; eight grandchildren, Jeri (Barnard) and Jeff Smith of Vincennes, Brandon Kyle and Britany Barnard of Evansville, Tyler Gregory Jones of Washington, Ryan Jeffery Lenahan of Washington, Joshua Bissey of Washington, Jeremiah Bissey of Washington, Jacob Linton of Louisville and Stephanie Amshoff of Louisville; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Daniells Smith of Vincennes and Preston Kyle Barnard of Evansville; cousins Diane Fleck and Laverne Welp; and numerous family in Dubois County.

He is preceded in death by his parents, step parents Wilfred and Josephine Brentzell and two uncles, Alfred and Bill Burger.

The funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Church on the Way, the Revs. Jeff Jones and Steve Dayton officiating.

Burial is in Sugarland Memory Gardens with full military honors by the American Legion and VFW.

Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Gill Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to Cornerstone Christian School.
