DALLAS, Texas — Mary Blackwell passed away peacefully Aug. 2, surrounded by family members. Born in Montgomery, she spent 38 years in Dallas. Although she became a Texan, Mary remained a Hoosier at heart. She is survived by three daughters, Carol Freeman, Vicki James and husband Gary, and Pam Blackwell; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by Robert “Blackie” Blackwell, her beloved husband of 49 years. She also leaves behind two sisters, Katie DePierre and husband Fred, and Patty Spera and husband Dominic; and one brother, Paul Graber and wife Jean. Mary and Blackie owned Mason’s Root Beer Stand for 10 years. They were members at the First Christian Church. Her coney sauce was legendary, and her award-winning coconut cream pie was the best in town. We do not mourn her, because she is with the Lord. Bethany Cemetery will host the memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Common Belief Ministry, P.O. Box 536, Howe, TX 75459.
