LOOGOOTEE — Pershing Jones, 94, died at 2:24 p.m. Friday at Loogootee Nursing Center. Born May 9, 1918, in Martin County, he was the son of Richard W. and Emma (Strange) Jones. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Loogootee and attended Loogootee High School. He was a retired fuel delivery driver for Martin County Co-Op and was an avid gardener and enjoyed flowers. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Allen Swayze of Loogootee; a son, James L. “J.J.” Jones of Loogootee; two stepsons, Gary Mosby of Florida, and Dane and wife Jackie Mosby of Loogootee; one stepdaughter, Cara Allen of Loogootee; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. His first wife, Dorothy (Padgett) Jones, preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 2008. His second wife, Lee (Jacobs) Jones, preceded him in death on Aug. 9, 2002. His parents, four brothers, three sisters and an infant sibling are also deceased. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Catholic Church in Loogootee. Burial will be in St. John Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee.
