Ervin G. Otte

Dec. 8, 1934 - Sept. 17, 2012

BEDFORD — Ervin G. Otte, 77, died at Rolling Hills Health Care in New Albany. Born Dec. 8, 1934, in Jackson County, he was the son of Francis and Ruth (Ayres) Otte. He married Nancy Sue (Hite) on April 9, 1960, and she preceded him in death on April 17, 2008. He was a retired Lawrence County Extension Agent, a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church, Rotary International, IFYE, Cub Scouts and was involved with numerous Foreign Exchange Students. He also served in the National Guard. Survivors include, one son, Alan Otte and wife Kathy of Crandall; six grandchildren, Sgt. Nathan Otte of Fort Lewis, Wash., stationed in Afghanistan, Jessika Otte of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jason McConnell of Louisville, Ky., Jennesy McConnell of Corydon, Jennifer Shouse of Austin, and Sgt. Ryan Shouse and wife Sara of Miramar-San Diego, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren, Marshall Robbins, Gage and Jace Shouse; two brothers, Lloyd Otte of Crothersville and Ralph Otte of Cortland. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Nancy; one son, Brian Otte; two brothers, Marshall and Earl Otte. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Lutheran Church with Pastor Chuck Groth officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day and Carter Mortuary and from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nancy S. Otte Scholarship Fund. Family and friends are invited to sign the guestbook and light a candle in memory of Ervin at www.daycarter.com.
