Francis S. Hunter

LOOGOOTEE — Francis S. Hunter, 91, died at 1:20 p.m. Saturday at Martin County Healthcare and Rehab Center in Loogootee.

Born Oct. 26, 1918, in Daviess County, he was the son of John and Joan (Raney) Hunter.

He attended Montgomery High School and St. Mary’s Chapel in Barr Township, where he was also on the St. Mary’s Cemetery Board. He was a retired farmer and a DeKalb Seed Corn Dealer. He helped establish Anna Marie’s Concrete World and was a former maintenance worker at Boggs Lake. He was also a 4-H Leader in the St. Mary’s area of Barr Township.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John A. “Tony” and Jane Hunter of Newburgh; two daughters and a son-in-law, Anna Marie and Steve Baird of Montgomery and Rita Clements of Evansville; two sisters, Mildred Greenwell of Granger and Dorothy Cruse of Washington; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

His wife, Ernestine (Ash) Hunter, whom he married May 7, 1942, is deceased. His parents; three infant children, Gray, Kenneth and Brenda Hunter; one brother, Paul Hunter; three sisters, Helen Brown, Ethel McCauley and Margaret “Peg” Morgan; and a son-in-law, Tony Clements, are also deceased.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Chapel in Barr Township. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Brocksmith Funeral Home.
