LOOGOOTEE —
Robert T. “Bob” McAtee, 85, died at 10 a.m. Friday at his home, surrounded by his family.
Born Aug. 31, 1926 in Martin County, he was the son of Harry and Delphia (Doyle) McAtee.
A 1944 graduate of Loogootee High School, he was an Army veteran in Europe. He spent over 60 years in auto sales and was employed at Loughmiller Machine and Tool as a domestic engineer.
He was a founding partner of Bellgrade Developers incorporated in 1962. He was an honorary life member of the Loogootee Knights of Columbus and a 68-year member of American Legion Post 120.
He was an avid Loogootee Lion basketball fan who loved gardening, farming and all things associated with the land. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were a great joy to him.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Louise (Bullock) McAtee, whom he married on May 13, 1950. Other survivors are a son, Thomas and wife Stephanie McAtee of Loogootee; four daughters, Nancy and husband Mike Jones, Karen McAtee and companion John Covel, Shirley and husband Mark Jeffers, and Geri Lynn and husband Ron Cox, all of Loogootee; three brothers, John and Glen McAtee, both of Loogootee, and Joseph McAtee of Plainfield; a sister, Catherine Miller of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren, Shad Arvin, Sara Chandler, T.J. McAtee, Chelsey Strange, Mitch Jeffers, Molly and Luke Jones and Shelby McAtee; and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William “Bill” McAtee.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John Catholic Church with burial in St. John Cemetery with graveside military rites by the American Legion and VFW.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home, with a K of C memorial service at 6 p.m.
Preferred memorials are Mass intentions to St. John Catholic Church or St. Martin Catholic Church.
