  • City needs to weigh effect of pay raises on the taxpayer

    We agree Washington police officers, firefighters, utility workers and all city of Washington departments have done an admirable job over the years, but asking for large wage increases to “make up” for the last few years isn’t practical.
    Let’s be reasonable.

    Friday’s big announcement on the east side of Washington was good news for Washington and Daviess County. Officials are starting to see the fruits of their labors — all the time and effort over the past several years is finally paying off.
