SHOALS — The Barr-Reeve seventh grade basketball team improved to 9-1 on the season with a 46-4 victory over Shoals on Monday. All nine Viking players scored in the contest, and were led by Heath Graber's 11. He was followed by Brandon Wagler with eight, Damon Pruett and Connor Sorrells with five each, Trey Graber and Hunter Gladish with four each and Myron Stoll, Collin Swartzentruber and Jacob O’Brian rounded out the scoring with three each.
The Vikings return to action Thursday night when they travel to White River Valley.
NDJH splits with Bloomfield
BLOOMFIELD — The North Daviess Lady Cougar seventh grade came away with a 20-12 win over Bloomfield. Scoring was Janae Wagler with seven, Larynda Keith and Ahsley Troutman with five each, along with Mindy Taylor’s two and Shirsten Speer’s one.
The eighth graders put up a good fight but lost 26-19. Scoring for the Lady Cougars were MacKenzie Clark with seven, five from Jessie Webster, two each from Darrah Holder, Stephanie Smith and Ashley Troutman. Gracie Meyer added one.
Lady Cougars beat Loogootee 6th
LOOGOOTEE — The North Daviess Lady Cougars sixth grade won against Loogootee on Monday.
The A-game was won by ND, 16-15. Meghan Knepp and Shaina Smith had four points each. Sabra Smith, Madison Reed, Morgan Wadsworth and Allison Beasley each had two points.
ND took the B-game, 5-4. Brooke Bays and Morgan Wadsworth each had two points and Kylie Hanna had one.
Cougar 8th Split at Oolitic
OOLITIC — The North Daviess eighth grade boys basketball team participated in the Oolitic tourney on Saturday. In the first round, the Cougars fell to host Oolitic, 26-19. Lewis Nugent led ND with nine points. Luke Detweiler added four points for the Cougars, while Brandt Lawyer added three points and Jordan O’Haver added two. Anthony Steffey contributed one point to round out the scoring.
In the consolation game, the Cougars defeated Shoals 41-39. Lawyer and Nugent shared scoring honors with 12 points each. Steffey added nine points for the Cougars, with Matthew Miller contributing four points. Detweiler and O'Haver each added two points.
WJHS 7th falls to Sullivan
The Washington Junior High seventh grade girls played a high-scoring Sullivan (3-0) team Monday and lost 25-36. WJHS was led by Courtney Shake with 11, Hannah Mason, Rachel Chattin, and Ashley Hayes with four each and Audra Lane with two. Sullivan was led by 5-10 Raegan Smith that led themin scoring with 21 points.
B-R 5th, 6th beats Lena Dunn
MONTGOMERY — The Barr-Reeve fifth and sixth grade boys team posted wins over Lena Dunn to remain undefeated.
The fifth graders (7-0) won 60-15, with Connor Swartzentruber getting 11 and Lucas Graber, Addison Wagler and Jeremy Graber getting eight each. Ethan Duncheon had five, while Eric Wagler and Seth Swartzentruber had four each and Matt Stoll, Zach Graber, Drew Fields, Jarit Perkins, Blake Hoover and Gage Miller had two each.
The sixth graders (9-0) won 47-16, with Jon McMullen getting 14, Micah Bullock with 10 and seven from Logan Lengacher. Martin Winkler and Clay Cummings had three each, while Ryan Knepp and Trevor Steiner had two each.
B-R 8th gets win
SHOALS — The Barr-Reeve Junior High eighth grade boys team remained undefeated for the season, as they beat Shoals 48-23 on Monday evening at Shoals and are now 10-0 for the season.
Ashton Wagler led the way for the Vikings with 14 points, followed by Cody Wagler with 12, Matt Rohrer had nine, Jon Gingerich had four, while Justin Graber and Dustin Kemp each had three and Matt Swartzentruber rounded out the scoring for the Vikings. The Vikings will now play White River Valley at Worthington on Thursday.
Veale beats Griffith
The Veale fifth and sixth graders picked up a pair of wins over Griffith on Monday.
Veale downed Griffith 23-20 in the fifth grade game, with Veale’s (4-2) Matt Sparks getting nine, Elliot Baugh adding eight and Nick Gray posting four. Logan Fox also had two. Griffith was led by Luke Raymond with 10. Dakota Miles had four and Cain Mandabach, Nate Doolin and Cooper Rhoads had two each.
Veale also took the sixth grade game, 31-21. Derek Arvin had 15 and Tyler Summers had 10, while Austin Gray had four and Thomas Quast added two. Griffith was led by James Sidebottom lead with eight, while Austin Ghiradelli had seven. Eric Long added four and Hunter Thurston posted two.
