Vandalism hits Washington Country Club

For the second time in less than a week, vandalism has taken its toll on Washington Country Club’s golf course.

In two separate incidents, the club’s locked cart barn has been broken in to and golf carts have been taken.

Early Thursday morning, it was again discovered the cart barn had been broken into and three carts were taken, one of which was used to damage the fifth green. Two of the carts were also seriously damaged and No. 5 green had to be aerated and reseed, in order to return it to playable status.

“It is really quite frustrating,” said pro shop manager Dave Baker. “The greens have been the best they have been in a long time. There is no reason for this.”

Baker added that they also had vandalism two years ago and two of the greens had to be resodded.

Club president Mike Chestnut is also disturbed about the recent vandalism.

“It is just senseless. People have worked very hard to make this course nice for everyone and then someone does something like this. It is ridiculous,” added Chestnut.

The club has offered a reward of $550 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the vandals.
