All-BCC team named

The Blue Chip Conference recently handed out its end of season awards.

The All-Blue Chip boys team was named, with Barr-Reeve’s Christian Duncheon and Trey Hughes making the team. Loogootee’s John Baugh, Josh Divine and Conner Wittmer were named, as was Austin Jarrett from Washington Catholic. Other players named included Mitchell Patton and Cody Hendershot of South Knox, along with Kendall Vieke of Rivet, Garrett Bateman of Shoals, Nick Powers of Wood Memorial and Richard Gugliotta of North Knox.

The Honorable Mention team included Barr-Reeve’s Ashton Wagler, Ben Welage of Rivet, Huter Ewin of Wood Memorial and Wes Knies of Dubois.

Patton led the conference in scoring with 21.4 ppg, Bateman had 18.9, while Hughes had 16.4, Gugliotta had 14.3 and Duncheon posted 14. Other individual game and season leaders included Patton with 15 rebounds in a game and 95 for the season. He also led with 11.4 boards a game, However, the conference mark is still held by Springs Valley’s Larry Bird, with 21.1 in 1974. Jarrett, Vieke and Patton had 12 field goals in a game, while Hughes was 9 of 9 to lead from the free throw line. Vieke led with 27 conference 3-pointers, including seven in one game. He also had the most points in a conference game with 34.

Barr-Reeve won the conference with a 8-0 mark for coach Bryan Hughes, while Loogootee’s Mike Wagoner was 7-1. South Knox ended the year at 5-3, while Shoals and Rivet were 4-4. Dubois and Wood ended the year at 3-5, while North Knox and Washington Catholic ended the year at 1-7 for coach Bill Brown.

The Vikings also took the JV championship with a 7-0 record for coach Aaron Ash, while NED was 6-1, North Knox was 5-2, South Knox finished 4-3, while Mike Wininger’s group was 3-4. Wood ended the JV season 2-5, Shoals and Rivet were 1-6 and WC did not have a team.

Barr-Reeve completed the BCC sweep with a win in the freshman tourney at Washington Catholic.
