WC wins on Senior Night

In spite of being down at the end of the first quarter, the Washington Catholic Lady Cardinals rallied back to give their three seniors a win on Senior Night on Wednesday.

WC defeated White River Valley, 59-54. WC was led by its three seniors, Katie Sellers, Rachel Wichman and Kasey LaGrange. Sellers had 17 points and four rebounds, Wichman had 14 points, five boards and four assists, while LaGrange had 11 points and three rebounds.

WC took the lead in the second with a 17-9 run and posted a 13-3 advantage in the third.

The Lady Wolverines came back with a 24-16 advantage in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough to keep WC from its fifth win.

Also scoring was Sarah Wichman with seven points and two boards, Bailey Abel had four points and three boards, Hannah Wild added two points, two rebounds and two assists, while Emily Schnarr has five points, one rebound and five assists.

“Tonight was Senior Night for our three seniors and they made their last appearance on the Birdcage floor a good one. All three scored in double figures to lead a pretty balanced offense,” said WC coach Jim Mackey.

“I also told our younger kids that the seniors had carried them most of the year and tonight could be an emotional one for them and they would have to carry the seniors for awhile until their emotions calmed down. We got some really nice efforts from our freshmen with Bailey, Sarah and Hannah combining for 13 points and Emily played I think her best game of the year by not only chipping in five points and five very big and key assists, but handled the ball the majority of the time and committing only one turnover.

Mackey added that he has appreciated the effort he has got from his three seniors.

“Kasey, Katie and Rachel have done so much for this program and me that I cannot put into words my appreciation to them. They have faced so much adversity and challenges this year and though it seems insufficient the only thing I can think to tell them is thank you so very much. I know that I speak for all the coaches that we have been very fortunate to have been around these fine young ladies,” added Mackey. There was no JV game played.
