BLOOMINGTON — The No. 12 Washington Hatchet soccer team had a successful weekend of Hoosier Cup soccer at Karst Farm Park, just outside of Bloomington.
The Hatchets (7-0-1) went 2-0-1, getting wins over South Bend Adams and Providence, while tying Brownsburg.
Late Friday night, the Hatchets opened with a 2-0 win over South Bend Adams, 2-0. Ethan Hunsinger accounted for both goals, scoring unassisted at 1:33 and again at 8:29 off a pass from Lance Davis.
On Saturday, WHS tied Brownsburg, 1-1. Hunsinger again accounted for the scoring, with a goal assisted by Trevor Miller at 32:08. Brownsburg scored in the final moments of the game, scoring at 79:06.
On Saturday night, WHS beat Providence, 3-1. Providence opened with a goal off a penalty kick, but WHS scored the next three. Christian Burns scored at 52:20 with Briar Goodwin getting the assist. Addison Stoll added a goal at 67:27 with Burns getting the assist. The final goal came from Dakota Parsons, off an assist from Randy Marroquin at 79:56.
Between the pipes, Stephan Arney and Cody Chapman split time, with Arney making five saves and Chapman making two.
The Hatchets travel to Forest Park today.
The Lady Hatchet soccer team finished second at Hoosier Cup in Bloomington over the weekend, going 1-1-1.
On Friday night they tied Evansville Harrison 1-1. Scoring for the Lady Hatchets was Brandy Ramaj off a cross from Sierra Bryant.
On Saturday, the Lady Hatchets faced No. 9 Brownsburg and were defeated, 4-2. Ramaj and Hilary Patterson connected, while Jessie Hayes scored unassisted.
In the final game of the day, the Lady Hatchets upset No. 13 Columbus North, 2-1 with a stellar defensive effort from the Hatchets. Bryant scored the first goal off of a cross from Patterson.
Madi Heacock then found Ramaj for the second goal to put the Hatchets ahead for good. The Lady Hatchets are back in action today at home against Vincennes Lincoln at 5:30 p.m., in a varsity- only contest.
