Family flees after judge impounds truck

A family of four fled the Daviess County Courthouse Thursday and was chased throughout town by city police.

According to police records, Circuit Court Judge Greg Smith ordered an impound on a white Ford F250 with expired plates. After the order was made, two adults, Corey and Nancy Susan McCormick, New Haven, entered the vehicle with two children and drove away at around 12:22 p.m. Washington Police Capt. Tim Guy followed them, and they were stopped at Hunan Garden on E. Nat’l Hwy. McCormick began running on foot and was detained by Guy and charged with resisting law enforcement, two counts of criminal mischief, neglect of a dependent and possession of a handgun without a license. He was being held at the Daviess County Security Center on $8,500 bond.

Nancy McCormick, 27, was arrested by the city police and charged with neglect of a dependent and resisting law enforcement. She was being held on $4,500 bond. Smith ordered the children into protective custody.
