Indiana contributed more than 200,000 soldiers to the Union effort in the Civil War, and Daviess County played a major part in supplying that manpower for the war effort. One of those men, William A. Myers, was the topic of discussion at Monday’s monthly meeting of the Daviess County Civil War Roundtable held at the Daviess County Museum in Washington.

Roundtable president Monty Critchlow gave the gathering a history of William A. Myers, who was born in Daviess County near Cornettsville in 1840, just a few years after his father, Daniel Myers, relocated the family to Indiana from North Carolina. Myers was 21 years old when war broke out in April, 1861, and he enlisted, along with 44 others, in Company G which was being formed by Eli McCarthy in Washington. In September of that same year. The company was assigned to the 42nd Indiana infantry.
