LOOGOOTEE - Loogootee planted itself firmly in the early season driver’s seat for a Blue Chip Conference boys basketball title with a 54-45 win over South Knox at Jack Butcher Arena on Tuesday.
Class A No. 7 Loogootee (5-1, 3-0) kept South Knox (2-4, 1-1) big man Mitchell Patton in check, allowing the Spartans’ 6-9, IUPUI-bound center to 14 points, eight of which came in the first quarter. Loogootee’s 6-4 freshman center Conner Wittmer scored just five points, but his defense on Patton until fouling out late in the contest was key.
