Bloomington complex evacuated on fake pipe bomb

Bloomington — Police say an object that caused a bomb scare at a Bloomington apartment complex is not a bomb.

Bloomington police Lt. David Drake says the device isn't a bomb but "definitely something made to look like a real one."

Residents were evacuated Wednesday from a building at the Bradford Place Collegiate Residences after a maintenance worker found the device.

Drake says a maintenance worker went into an apartment closet and found two pipes tied together with a wire coming out of it.

Police, firefighters and a bomb squad from Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center responded.
