Indianapolis. — Indianapolis police say a 3-year-old girl has died after being shot in the head inside a home on the city's west side.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police are investigating the shooting of Aunesti Lee Allen. Police spokesman Lt. Jeff Duhamell told The Indianapolis Star that Thursday's killing was not a "drive by" shooting but police have not yet said how the girl was shot.
Duhamell says the girl's mother and other young children were at the home when the girl was shot. A police report said detectives investigating found suspected marijuana cigarette butts, suspected cocaine and a digital scale in the house.
Police say they were called to the scene just after noon. The girl was rushed to Riley Hospital for Children, where she was pronounced dead around 4:30 p.m.
