Nashville, IN — A state panel has set aside 3,300 acres of Brown County State Park in southern Indiana for the largest nature preserve owned by the state.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources announced Wednesday that the state's Natural Resources Commission has authorized the creation of the Ten O'Clock Line Nature Preserve.
Nature preserves director John Bacone says the action will save one of the largest unfragmented forests remaining in Indiana. The site includes upland and floodplain forest that provides habitat for cerulean warblers, broad-winged hawks, timber rattlesnakes and other species.
Nature preserve status means the land will remain free of development such as picnic shelters or parking lots.
