WASHINGTON — Aces defeat Hatchets

Mt. Carmel (Ill.) defeated Washington, 179-199, at Country Oaks in a Big Eight  Conference golf match.

Natalya Meinhart shot 46 to pace the Hatchets (20-32). Kayla Mercer shot 49, Cheyenne Jones 51, Haven Lunsford 53, Destiny Graber 57 and Liz Sievers 62.

Mount Carmel’s Annie Leighty was medalist with a round of 42.

Hatchets top Spartans, 2-0

Washington’s junior varsity girls soccer team defeated South Knox’s varsity, 2-0, at the Sports Complex Wednesday.

Kaitlyn Smith scored one minute into the second half for Washington’s  first goal. Emily Mahan scored the second goal off a cross with 24:47 left to play.

Robinson earns victory

Washington’s Jamal Robinson won a triangular meet with Vincennes Clark and Rivet Wednesday.

Robinson ran in a time of 11:49, leading the Hatchets to a team-winning score of 26. Clark was second with 31. Rivet did not have enough runners to score.

Other finishers for Washington were: Wesley Edwards, fourth, 12:57; Shawn Greene, sixth, 13:03; Brady Turner, seventh, 13:07; Bradley Decker, eighth, 13:18; Curtis Tucker, ninth, 13:21; Brandon Richter, 18th, 16:51; Kory Pfender, 20th, 19:09.

Emily Matthews ran eighth in a time of 14:39 for Washington’s girls. Clarke won the team event with 15 points and Rivet had 50. Washington did not enough runners to score.

Other Washington finishers were: Mykah Myers, 12th, 16:40; Mallory Heller, 15th, 17:44; and Maya Gray, 17th, 18:21.

Hatchets top Cougars, 5-0

Washington’s junior high tennis team defeated North Daviess, 5-0.

Ben Lambert defeated Ethan Hawk, 8-5, Jacob Overton topped Tanner Gray, 8-4, and Caleb Arthur won against Michael Holt, 8-0, in singles.

In doubles, Jake Wilson-Hunter Escalera defeated Garrett Huff-Caleb Wagler, 8-1, and Kaleb Knepp-John Rook defeated Craig Parsons-Ethan Jerrels, 8-2. North Daviess’ Cody Keith defeated Nate Napier, 6-0, and Washington’s Jacob Rice won, 6-3.

Stats needed from coaches

Area varsity coaches are asked to begin sending in stats for their players beginning Monday.

Following is a list of statistics requested for each sport:

Volleyball: Top three players in kills, digs and assists.

Cross country: Best three times for both boys and girls from your school.

Soccer: Top three in goals, shots and assists. For goalies, shots faced and allowed.

Tennis: Records for singles and doubles players.

Golf: Average score for nine and 18-hole rounds and best scores for each player.
