Hatchet netters top Sullivan

Washington blanked Sullivan, 5-0, in a Tuesday tennis match at Lena Dunn courts.

Lucas Miller defeated Luke Willis, 6-2, 6-2, and Cory Thompson defeated Jake Pirtle, 6-0, 6-2. Jacob Luttrell defeated Will Arnette, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, Matthew Pancake-Tyler Stoll stopped Carson Willis-Austin Bobbitt, 6-1, 6-0. Garrett Burton-Jake Bedwell defeated Riley Pirtle-Cullen Spatz in straight 6-1 sets.

Bosse tops Hatchets in 5

Evansville Bosse defeated Washington in five volleyball sets Tuesday at the Hatchet House.

Bosse won 25-19, 23-25, 25-10, 22-25, 15-7.

For Washington, Rachel Chattin had 12 digs and kills. Paige Hawthorne had 12 kills and nine digs.

Araina Fidler had nine digs and Amber Taylor six assists.

Reed scores 4 in Cardinal win

FERDINAND — Colton Reed scored four goals and Steven Holland made 12 saves as Class A No. 8 Washington Catholic defeated Forest Park, 5-0, Tuesday.

The Cardinals (9-0-1, 3-0-1 Blue Chip) also received a goal from Christian Neace. Brantley Smith had two assists and Blaine Fuhs one.

Cougars 3rd in SWIAC

LINTON — North Daviess placed third in the Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference golf meet at the Phil Harris Golf Course Tuesday.

Meghan Knepp (56), Maggie Swartzentruber (57) and Rachel Wagler (59) earned all-conference honors by finishing in the individual top 10.

Linton won the tournament with 206 for nine holes. Eastern Greene placed second (219). North Daviess placed third (233), followed by North Central and White River Valley (286) in a tie for fourth.

North Daviess won the championship last season in the first year of having a full team.

“Our number one player, Cassie Knepp, was out due to a broken foot, and we had no seniors on our roster,” North Daviess coach Brett Melton said. “I asked several freshmen and sophomores to step up, and I’m proud of the team.”

Loogootee tops Patriots

LOOGOOTEE — Class A No. 2 Loogootee defeated Blue Chip Conference foe Vincennes Rivet, 25-19, 25-18, 25-12, Tuesday.

Demi Richardson had 35 assists for the 13-3 Lions. Abby Ackerman had 13 points, eight kills and six digs. Waylee Wagoner had 12 digs and points, Michala Beasley 15 kills and seven points.

Loogootee paws Lincoln, 5-0

VINCENNES — Loogootee pitched a shutout against Vincennes Lincoln, Tuesday in tennis.

Conner Wittmer defeated Graham Purcell in straight 6-0 sets. Jesse Horney topped Colton Mercer-Szandy, 6-1, 6-4, and Tyler Booker defeated Torey Graham in straight 6-0 sets.

In doubles, Waylon Matthews-Gabe Nolley defeated Mitchell Cooper-Eli Williams, 6-0, 6-1, and Hayden Bell-Will Nonte won by forfeit.

“Overall, I thought we played well,” Loogootee (9-2) coach Rick Graves said. I was pleased that we were able to dictate tempo and played our style. We have some important matches coming, so I’m hopeful we can continue to play at this level.”

Barr-Reeve wins Blue Chipper

MONTGOMERY — Class A No. 3 Barr-Reeve defeated Shoals, 25-14, 25-10, 25-14, in a Blue Chip Conference volleyball match Tuesday.

Tiara Kenney had 18 service points and eight kills for the Vikings (14-2, 4-0 Blue Chip).

Jenna Knepp had 21 assists and seven digs. Cori Cummings added 10 assists.

Hania Sisco and Hannah Bullock had eight kills each.

Barr-Reeve (10-2) also won the junior varsity match, 25-12, 25-13.

Patriots top North Daviess

ELNORA — Vincennes Rivet defeated North Daviess, 5-0, Tuesday in tennis.

Dalton Robbins topped Evan Hawk in straight 6-0 sets, Aaron Pea defeated Scott Woodruff, 6-1, 6-0, and Alex Stenger defeated Trevor Wikle, 6-0, 6-2.

In doubles, Nick Niehaus-Blake Mouzin defeated Lane Heshelman-Braden Lawyer, 6-3, 6-0, and Collen Wirth-Mitchell Hamilton topped Lane Sulton-Trent Bowman, 6-0, 6-3.

Sorrells, Pruett are in top 5

NASHVILLE — Connor Sorrells was fourth and Damon Pruett was fifth at the Brown County Invitational cross country meet.

Sorrells ran in a time of 15:47, while Pruett came home in 15:49 to lead Barr-Reeve to an eight place finish in the 41-team event.

Other Viking finishers were: Jarit Perkins, 18th, 16:32; Martin Winkler, 118th, 16:32; Stephan Lang, 169th, 19:11; Jeremy Graber, 191st, 19:36; and Josh Graber, 216th, 20:10.

In the open race, Barr-Reeve’s Chayse Wagler was 66th in 19:48. He was followed by: Kurt Bauer, 67th, 19:49; Ethan Duncheon, 132nd, 21:57; and Thomas Quast, 158th, 23:15.

Barr-Reeve nets tennis win

SWITZ CITY — Barr-Reeve defeated White River Valley, 3-2, in tennis Tuesday.

Tyler Bennett (6-2, 6-4) and John Cangelosi (6-0, 6-0) both won singles matches. Jeff Parsons (6-2, 6-0) was defeated.

Clay Cummings-Colten Lottes (6-0, 6-1) won in doubles. (Trevor Steiner-Wyatt Helms (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) were defeated.

Zack Tankersley won a junior varsity singles match, 6-1. Zach Graber-Blake Hoover won 6-0. Sam and Max Craney were defeated, 7-5.

Hatchets clip Loogootee

Washington defeated Loogootee, 4-2, in a junior high tennis match Tuesday.

Jacob Overton won 8-0 to remain undefeated for the season. John Rook won 8-0.

Jake Wilson-Hunter Escalera won in doubles, 8-1.

Ben Lambert and Caleb Arthur-Kaleb Knepp lost 8-0 and 8-5 decisions respectively.

Jacob Rice-Austin Boyd won, 6-4, and Nate Napier dropped a 4-2 decision.

Cardinals edge Vikings

MONTGOMERY —Bloomfield defeated Barr-Reeve in boys tennis, 3-2.

For Barr-Reeve, Tyler Bennett defeated Alex Chestnut, 7-5, 6-2, and John Cangelosi defeated Conner Dowden, 7-5, 6-3.

Bloomfield’s Del Carter defeated Jeff Parsons, 6-0, 6-1.

Bloomfield won both doubles matches. Andrew Dawson-Jared Myers defeated Clay Cummings-Wyatt Helms, 6-2, 6-0, and Nathan Steele-Evan Fuller defeated Colten Lottes-Zach Graber, 6-2, 6-4.

The Vikings won four junior varsity matches. Blake Hoover and Zack Tankersley won in singles, 8-1, each.

Sam Craney-Max Craney won 8-7 in doubles, and Gage Miller-Seth Graber won 6-2.

Fall softball league forming

Washington High School softball is sponsoring a fall fast pitch league for area high school girls.

The games will be played at the Washington Sports Complex on five Sunday afternoons, beginning September 30 through October 28.  The league is hoping to play two games per Sunday, depending upon the number of players registered.

The cost is $20 per player. The fee will be used to help defray the cost of officials. 

Registration forms are available from all area high school softball coaches, the Washington athletic office, and the End Zone.  Forms need to be completed and returned by September 24.
