The Washington girls soccer team won its fifth straight game Saturday at Forest Park 3-0. The Hatchets (7-4) got goals from Olivia Myers, Lupe Perez and Jenna Legg.
The Hatchets have not allowed a goal during their current win streak while scoring 26.
Loogootee wins invitational
LOOGOOTEE — Loogootee defeated Barr-Reeve and Bloomfield to win its own tennis invitaitonal Saturday.
The Lions defeated Barr-Reeve, 5-0, in the championship round after topping Bloomfield by the same 5-0 final in the semifinal round.
The Vikings defeated Tecumseh, 3-2, in the semifinal round to the reach the championship.
Bloomfield defeated Tecumseh, 3-2, in the consolation match.
“I was happy with the way we played,” Loogootee coach Rick Graves said. “I thought at times we played our best tennis of the season.”
Cougars take 2nd straight title
HENRYVILLE — North Daviess won the Henryville Invitational in volleyball for a second consecutive year Saturday.
The Cougars defeated Rock Creek Christian Academy, 25-10 and 25-13. The Cougars then defeated, Henryville, winning the first set 25-22. During the second set, hitter Janae Wagler suffered a knee injury, but the Cougars were able to pull the win out in two sets with a score of 25-7.
North Daviess (14-6) then advanced to the championship game winning against Lanesville, 25-15, 25-27, and 16-14.
“We came out strong today with a lot of energy and enthusiasm,” North Daviess coach Rebecca Hays said. “The girls really pulled together and played well.”
Alexis Brewer had 41 digs and 1 assist, for the Cougars. Other Cougar contributors were: Larynda Keith had 18 digs, one ace, and one assist; Janae Wagler had three digs, six kills, four blocks and one assist; Cari Jo Wilson eight kills, 10 blocks and three assists; Chandra Bruner 12 digs, 15 kills, four blocks and two assists; Taylor Jeffers 22 digs, five aces, 17 kills, two blocks and one assist; Madison Reed nine digs, one ace, four kills and 31 assists. Morgan Wadsworth two digs, 11 kills and 5 blocks; Jessica Miller eight digs, seven kills, and nine blocks; Lenzi Brewer nine digs, six aces, one kill and 21 assists.
Loogootee tops Shoals in 3
SHOALS –– Loogootee defeated Shoals in three consecutive games, 25-7, 25-14, 25-7, Friday evening to improve their record to 15-3.
The Lions were led by Michala Beasley with 16 kills, Demi Richardson with 39 assists and Waylee Wagoner with 15 points. Abby Ackerman, Wagoner and Kailye Robbins all had six digs.
Hatchets win 1 of 3 matches
PETERSBURG — The Washington volleyball team earned one win and two losses during the Pike Central Tournament Saturday.
The Hatchets fell to Class 2A No. 4 Eastern Greene, 25-13, 25-14, in their first match. The Hatchets got seven assists from Amber Taylor, eight kills from Rachel Chattin and Paige Hawthorne, and Araina Fidler had five digs.
Washington lost to Pike Central, 25-20, 18-25, 15-11, with six kills from Rachel Chattin and Megan Arnold, 10 assists from Jordan Carr and two aces from Emily Sullender.
The Hatchets defeated South Knox, 25-20, 25-15. Against South Knox. Washington got nine kills from Hawthorne, 12 assists from Amber Taylor, and 12 digs from Rachel Chattin.
Hatchets remain undefeated
The Washington Junior High School boys soccer team remained undefeated by topping Castle and Mooresville as part of a Saturday Round Robin at the Sports Complex.
The Hatchets (10-0) got two goals from Evan Frances and another from Luiz Perez on the way to a 3-0 win against Castle.
In their second game, Washington jumped out to a 3-0 lead behind goals from Solomon Davis, Matthew Trueblood and Luiz Perez. Mooresville scored two late goals, but the Hatchets held on for the 3-2 victory.

Wrestlers for relay
The Team Todd Relay for Life team will be joining with Tri-State Wrestling to bring an event to the Old Petersburg Gym on Saturday. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with bell time at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 and children under 4 are free. All proceeds from the event go to the Daviess County Relay for Life Team Todd.

Loogootee saw its chance to repeat as sectional champions end in dramatic fashion as Vincennes Rivet claimed the opening game of Sectional 63 with a 5-4, nine-inning win at Les Page Field on Wednesday.

IU still working towards sixth banner
Monday night in Atlanta, Louisville won the school’s first National Championship since the year I was born - 1986. This accomplishment is significant to Indiana basketball fans, because the last two times the Cardinals cut down the nets (1980, 1986), the Hoosiers did it the following year.
