Driver broadsides SUV

WASHINGTON — CITY REPORT

Saturday

4:43 p.m. — Damian Mejia Valdes, 23, 1704 Vincennes Ave., was northbound on W. Fifth Street in a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe registered to Enemesio Mora, 2128 Oak Grove Dr., and failed to yield the right of way at the intersection with VanTrees Street. He pulled into the path of an eastbound 1999 Ford Explorer driven by Kelly S. Waggoner, 42, 1015 W. VanTrees St. and registered to Patricia A. Canary.

Valdes was broadsided by Waggoner and pushed to the northeast corner of the intersection, where he struck a utility pole causing it to break at the base and be supported by guide wires. Damage was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.

Waggoner was transported by ambulance to Daviess Community Hospital for chest pain.

Valdes did not possess a drivers license and did not have vehicle insurance. He was arrested for operating a vehicle while never receiving a license.

Oct. 15

2:57 p.m. — Lawerence W. Colvin, 86, 1512 Hazel St., was traveling on E. Nat’l Hwy. in his 2001 Chevrolet S-10 and failed to stop for two vehicles that had stopped for another vehicle turning north onto Sixth Street. Colvin struck the rear of a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox driven by June R. Knepp, 39, 4805E 200S. The impact pushed Knepp’s vehicle into the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer of Kevin W. Huebner, 43, 1814 W. Nat’l Hwy. Damage was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.

Oct. 12

8:14 p.m. — Jayton C. Alexander, 19, Paoli, was driving his 2000 Ford Taurus in the Walmart parking lot, 100 Bypass 50 Plaza, when, according to witnesses, he appeared to have a seizure. He lost control of the vehicle and struck a concrete pole.

Law  enforcement officers believe the seizure was caused by inhaling toxic vapors. He was checked by emergency medical personnel and signed a release.

A blood test was positive for drugs. He was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated/controlled substance, among other charges.

Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.

COUNTY REPORT

Monday

10:24 p.m. — A structure fire was reported at 14335N 1100E. Odon, Elnora and Montgomery fire departments responded and were on the scene until 12:22 a.m.

8:18 p.m. — A fire was reported at 400 S. Spring St. in Odon. Odon and Montgomery fire departments responded and were on the scene until 9:11 p.m.

ARRESTS

David L. Gosnell, 20, Bridgeport, Ill., was arrested Tuesday by city police on a warrant for a parole violation. He was held at Daviess County Security Center without bond.

Aaron P. Arvin, 31, Washington, was arrested Monday by sheriff’s deputies for driving while suspended/prior. He was released on $2,000 bond.

Jordan K. Chanley, 22, Vincennes, was arrested Sunday by city police for criminal conversion after an employee of Walmart called to report a belligerent male shoplifter in their office. He was released on $2,500 bond.

Rickie Robinson, 34, Princeton, was arrested by sheriff’s deputies Sunday on a warrant for failure to appear. He was released on $2,000 bond.

Timothy Presser, 33, Washington, was arrested Sunday by a conservation officer for being a habitual traffic offender. He was held on $5,000 bond.

John Johnson, 32, Vincennes, was arrested Sunday by city police for public intoxication. He was released on $2,000 bond.

Ashley N. Thrasher, 26, Washington, was arrested by city police Sunday for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and OVWI/endangering. She  was released on $4,000 bond.

Heidi S. Lawson, 52, Elnora, was arrested by Elnora police Saturday for OVWI. She was released on $2,000 bond.

Thais B. Waller, 27, Washington, was arrested Saturday by state police for neglect of a dependent and OVWI/refusal. He was released on $4,500 bond.

Damian Mejia-Valdes, 23, Washington, was arrested by city police Saturday for operating a vehicle while never receiving a license. He was held on $2,000 bond.
