PIKE COUNTY — Saturday, at approximately 12:05 a.m., Indiana State Police Trooper John Davis and Pike County Deputy Dallas Killian responded to CRs 700N and 775W to assist the driver of a pickup truck that was hung up in the roadway.
The driver, identified as Daniel Dunn, 32, of Charlestown, was still attempting to free his pickup truck from the mud when officers arrived. Trooper Davis detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage on Dunn’s breath. Dunn also had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and his balance was unstable.
Trooper Davis also determined that Dunn had been attempting to free his vehicle for approximately two hours while Dunn’s 2-year-old son and two adult passengers were in the truck.
Further investigation revealed Dunn had a blood alcohol content of .15 percent. He was arrested and taken to the Pike County Jail, where he was held without bond for driving while intoxicated and neglect of a dependent, both Class D felonies.
Dunn’s 2-year-old son was later released to his grandfather.
