JASPER —
The Washington boys soccer team won another road game, this time against the Jasper Wildcats 1-0 Thursday evening.
Senior Austin Bush scored an unassisted goal in the 11th minute of play and goalie Tyler Seibert and the Hatchet defense held the Wildcats for 80 minutes.
The win improved the Hatchets to 5-1 in the Big Eight Conference and 9-2-4 overall.
WHS sweeps WRV 5-0
SWITZ CITY –– The Washington boys tennis team won 5-0 Thursday evening at White River Valley. Singles’ Lucas Miller, Corey Thompson and Jacob Luttrell all won consecutive sets without allowing a point to their counterparts.
Tyler Stoll and Matthew Pancake defeated Luke Mowery and Trent Myers 6-0, 7-5.
Garrett Burton and Jonathan Harner beat Colten Gregory and Michael Fisher 6-4, 7-5.
WC boys stay undefeated
MITCHELL –– The Washington Catholic boys soccer team won 15-0 at Mitchell to improve their record to 12-0-1. Colton Reed totaled five goals and four assists. Blaine Fuhs also added three goals, Christian Neace had three assists.
Cougars fall to Miners
ELNORA –– North Daviess fell to Linton Thursday evening in five sets. The Miners won the first two sets 25-23 and 30-28. The Cougars then won the next two by scores of 25-17 and 25-22. The Miners took the fifth and final set 15-9. Alexis Brewer led the Cougars in digs with 39, Madison Reed had 17 assists and Chandra Bruner scored 13 kills.
Hatchets lose to Vikings 4-1
The Washington Junior High tennis team lost to Barr-Reeve 4-1 Thursday evening. John Rook was the lone winner with a come from behind win 8-6. Jacob Overton lost 8-5, Jake Winston lost 8-1, Ben Lambert and Caleb Arthur lost 8-0, and Hunter Escalara and Kaleb Knepp lost 8-3. Caleb Arthur won in singles 6-1.
Thorne named for game
HOUSTON, Tex. — Washington Junior High student Marcus Thorne, Jr., has been named to participate in the inaugural Cam/Am Bowl.
Thorne was a participant in the seventh annual Offense-Defense Bowl at Reliant Stadium, and has been named as an Offense-Defense All-American.
The Can/Am Bowl is part of a week-long series of events , including the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl, a game featuring 88 high school seniors.

IU still working towards sixth banner
Monday night in Atlanta, Louisville won the school’s first National Championship since the year I was born - 1986. This accomplishment is significant to Indiana basketball fans, because the last two times the Cardinals cut down the nets (1980, 1986), the Hoosiers did it the following year. The stat, of course means nothing, other than both schools had strong programs in the 1980s.
