Habitual offender arrested on multitude of charges

WASHINGTON — A Washington man was arrested three times in about a month and a half for a variety of physical abuse charges.

Tyree Robinson, 31, originally faced one felony count and one misdemeanor count of domestic battery resulting in bodily injury, filed July 30. According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the Daviess County Clerk’s office, the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a woman stating she believed her friend — Robinson’s girlfriend — was being abused and needed help.

The affidavit stated when deputies arrived at the address, the victim acted very nervous and they noticed multiple marks and bruises on her right upper arm. When questioned about the marks, she told the officers she got them two weeks previously and explained how it happened.  After further questioning, the deputies learned there were four children in the house and Robinson was there, also. They found him hiding in a car trunk in the garage and took him into custody. At his initial hearing, a jury trial was set to begin Nov. 27.

A recognizance bond was posted Aug. 3 for Robinson and he was released from Daviess County Security Center.

On Aug. 10, criminal action was again filed against Robinson, this time for a felony count of strangulation and a misdemeanor count of domestic battery, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. According to the probable cause affidavit, DCSO dispatchers received a call Aug. 8 about a domestic situation involving Robinson and his girlfriend, who stated she didn’t know he’d been released from jail on the previous charges.

She told deputies Robinson came to her residence and they argued. During the argument, she said, he choked her. Robinson told the officers the victim had called him and asked him to come over.

Deputy Mike Heshelman explained to Robinson he was in violation of his bond by being in contact with the victim and her children, and his bond could be revoked. Heshelman also explained to Robinson that he could be arrested for trespassing if he returned.

Following the Aug. 8 incident, on Aug. 14, the State of Indiana filed a petition to revoke Robinson’s bond because a special condition of the bond was no direct or indirect contact with victims. The petition to revoke bond states: Robinson “has a significant criminal history which includes outstanding warrants in Florida and prior arrests for possession of marijuana, theft, sale of drugs, habitual traffic violator, possession of cocaine, domestic battery, tampering with victim/witness, strangulation, criminal mischief, interfering with arrest, obstruction of justice, unlawful detention and assault.” It also states law enforcement officers believe him to be a threat to his victim.

Further criminal action was filed Sept. 10 and an amended warrant was issued for Robinson’s arrest on an additional three felony counts of child molesting after it came to light he’d had inappropriate contact with a 5-year-old female over a period of about four months.

The warrant was served and Robinson was booked back into the Daviess County Security Center Sept. 22.  At his initial hearing, a jury trial was set to begin Jan. 22, 2013. In the meantime, a bond revocation hearing is set for Oct. 4. Robinson remains at the security center on $500,000 bond.
