Bateman back in grocery business

WASHINGTON — Tim Bateman of Washington is the new store manager at Save-a-Lot grocery, 300 S.E. 21st St.

“We look forward to having Tim on board. His grocery business background will fit in with what we are trying to do here,” said Brian Williams, supervisor of the Washington store.

Bateman, born and raised in Washington, started his career with Buehler’s Buy-Low, where he worked his way up to night manager at the Washington store and assistant manager at the Princeton location in the 1990s. Most recently he managed Dave’s Floor Covering in downtown Washington.

“My heart has always been with the grocery business. This opportunity came up with Save-a-Lot and I thought I fit in well with the personnel. This store has a good customer base, and we want to bring hometown service with new and familiar faces,” Bateman said.

“We also will continue to provide the low prices people in this area have come to expect, as well as a clean and friendly atmosphere.”

The store’s general manager, Larry Williams, said having a local grocery is important in the community as customers can reach out to the people making the decisions and get answers. “They (the personnel) live in the community and are part of the neighborhood,” he said.

Bateman and his wife, Kris, the assistant manager of The Stitching Post, have three children, Chelsea, 18, a senior at Washington High School, who plans to attend the University of Southern Indiana in the fall; Logan, 13, an eighth grader at Washington Junior High, who plays junior high basketball, and Annie, 11, a fifth grader at Lena Dunn Elementary.

He is a 1988 graduate of Washington High School, and the son of Joe and Mary Bateman of Washington.
