It was senior night in Montgomery, and Barr-Reeve wasn't going to let its four seniors finish out with a loss.
The Vikings (16-1, 6-1 Blue Chip) defeated South Knox (2-15, 1-4) 66-29 Thursday evening at Kavanaugh Kourt behind four Vikings in double figures. The Spartans took an early 3-0 lead on a 3-pointer from sophomore Austin Sievers on the first possession of the game, but struggled to find any offensive rhythm the rest of the night. Barr-Reeve answered by outscoring South Knox 11-3 the rest of the quarter, but was a little rusty in the opening eight minutes, playing in its first game in 13 days. Senior Jacob Bledsoe and sophomore Addison Wagler scored four points apiece in the opening quarter.
"From the offensive standpoint at the beginning of the game it was going to be difficult for us, because I put Heath (Graber) in a bad situation," said Barr-Reeve coach Bryan Hughes. "I started the four seniors, so he was in a position that he hadn¹t been in all year, so it was hard for us to run our sets. But, as the game progressed everyone got it going, I thought our defense was very good." In the second quarter, things didn't get any better for the Spartans as Barr-Reeve got at least one basket from five different players. The Vikings won the quarter by a 16-4 margin with Wagler once again leading with way with six points to give Barr-Reeve a 27-10 advantage at halftime.
In the third quarter, it was the same story the Barr-Reeve offense. The Vikings opened the second half on an 11-2 run to push the lead to 40-12 midway through the quarter. The Vikings once again were balanced, and got points from seven different players in the third quarter to take a 45-19 lead into the final eight minutes.
In the second and third quarters, the Vikings outscored the Spartans 34-13. Barr-Reeve was led by Jacob Bledsoe with 14 points, Addison Wagler with 12, Heath Graber with 11 and Micah Bullock had 10 points.
"I thought our kids locked down, and made it very difficult for South Knox to get any open looks," Hughes said. "Looking at the balanced scoring with four guys in double figures, and I thought Jacob Bledsoe (14 points) played a very good basketball game. It was a good team effort."
