PEEKSKILL, N.Y. — Charles “Junior” Burris, 60, passed away Saturday in New York. Born June 8, 1952, in Washington, he was the son of Charles and Gertrude (Hunter) Burris. A 1970 graduate of Washington High School, he was a member of the Washington V.F.W. He served 11 years in the U.S. Navy on the nuclear submarine U.S. Skipjack. He received a National Defense Service Medal. He is survived by five brothers, Randy (Sandy) Burris, Carl Burris and Glen Burris, all of Washington, Gilbert Burris of Indianapolis, and Joseph Burris of Florida; four sisters, Caroline Sue Brooks of Fountain City, Sharon Garabrant of Brownsburg, Norma Mercker of Dublin, Ohio, and Doris Loyd of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harold, Ray and James Lee Burris. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ed Lee Mortuary. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Washington American Legion and V.F.W. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
