Collection for Christmas boxes

WASHINGTON — The Washington Free Methodist Church, 1155 Troy Road, will be an official collection center for Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child, a project that collects gift-filled shoe boxes and delivers them to needy children all over the world.

Free Methodist will be collecting these special gifts during National Collection Week, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 12-18. To find out how to participate in this hands-on outreach opportunity call Nelson or Joyce Martin at 254-3821.

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan Purse, an international Christian relief organization headed by Franklin Graham that collects gift-filled shoe boxes and delivers them in the name of Jesus Christ to children living around the world.

Other local area drop-off centers are Loogootee Revival Center Church and Odon Christian Church.

Chili supper in Edwardsport

The First Baptist Church in Edwardsport will hold a chili supper fund raiser starting at 5 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under and may be purchased from church members or at the door. Proceeds from the supper will go for major repair work to the church roof.

City offices to close Tuesday

All city offices and departments will be closed Tuesday for Election Day. There will be no trash pick up and the city bus will not be in operation. The recycling center will also be closed. Residents with trash pick up on Tuesday are asked to have their trash ready for pick up by 7 a.m. Wednesday.

School board to meet at Dunn

The Washington Community School Board will meet at Lena Dunn Elementary School at 8:45 a.m. Friday for a building visit.

Cub Scout food drive in ND area

On Saturday, the Cub Scouts of Pack 447 will be going door to door in Odon, Elnora and Plainville putting donation bags on door handles.

On Saturday, Nov. 10, place your non-perishable items in the donation bag on your front doorstep by 10 a.m. and the Cub Scouts will pick them up no later than noon.

Please, no outdated items.

If you would prefer to drop off your donation you may do so at the Elnora Christian Church between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Nov 10.

Your donation of canned and packaged foods will be distributed by the Elnora Christian Church to our neighbors in need.
