Skillman visits Daviess County

MONTGOMERY —  Economic encouragement was on the mind of Radius CEO Becky Skillman in Daviess County Friday.

Skillman, the CEO of the eight-county economic development commission and former eight-year Lieutenant Governor of Indiana, told a collection of politicians, at the town, city and county level as well as leaders of the local business community that Daviess County has much in its favor and should expect future economic growth.

Skillman visited with the crowd for a luncheon at the Gasthof Amish Restaurant at noon. Skillman, who was named CEO of the organization at the beginning of this year, noted that Daviess County should expect development.

"With the I-69 expansion Daviess County will see growth in the future," Skillman said. "You are very wise doing the planning for that now." The visit to Daviess County Friday was part of an eight-day trip to each of the eight counties served by Radius.  She was introduced by Daviess County Economic Development Commission CEO Ron Arnold who said he was very pleased to see Skillman appointed to the post.

"There are many things taking place with the area's growth at this time," Arnold said. "I was quite happy to see her appointed." Skillman said the county had the "total picture," for future growth. "I've been quite encouraged with what I have seen today," Skillman said of her visit. "I think the things I have seen should be very encouraging to you as well." Skillman said Radius was formed to assist economic development within the eight counties.

"We are looking to put together an asset inventory from this entire area," Skillman said.

"I think we have a great opportunity. We are looking at the entire area as a whole, not as in town, city or county lines."

³We wish to partner with each of the counties, and do what we can do to help. It would be a great thing for the are to join together and cluster our assets." Skillman thanked the local leaders for their work in their communities.

"There are so many positive things that are here in the county." She started her day at the NSWC Crane and would continue visiting public and private entities throughout the day.

"We want to be your partner and do what we can," Skillman said. "Now is a great time for our area to surge forward."
