Douglas Scudder

Oct. 20, 1955 - Dec. 10, 2011

ODON — Douglas Elmer Scudder, 56, died at 12:34 a.m. Saturday at his home in rural Odon.

Doug was born Oct. 20, 1955, to SD and Frieda (Bline) Scudder. He was the 1973 salutatorian of North Daviess High School and a 1978 graduate of Purdue University School of Pharmacy.

Doug was married to Glenda Smith on June 23, 1984, and to their union was born Annalie, Hannah and Stuart.

He began his pharmacy career in Washington, along with Ken Holland. They became owners of Foster’s Pharmacy in Elnora, Odon Pharmacy and Prescription Shoppe in Washington. Doug had many interests and was a keen competitor, he was quick to let one know that there was more than one “Indiana” university.

He was an active member of Odon Business Association and worked with Dollars for Scholars at North Daviess High School for many years. Doug grew up “in church.” He became a Christian at age 11 (Oct. 28, 1966) and served the Lord in many capacities: at Plainville Christian Church, where he was an elder; board member of several boards, including Ketcham, Open Arms, and most recently Cristo Vive and Camp Illiana, where he served as treasurer. Doug had a heart for missions and visited India on a mission trip with Glenda early in their marriage, setting the stage for many future adventures.

Doug is preceded in death by his mother, Frieda Marie (Bline) Scudder. His survivors include his father, SD Scudder; his wife, Glenda; daughters Annalie (Mrs. Stephen Brooks) of Chesapeake, Va., and Hannah (who will become Mrs. Joel Brame of Plainfield on Feb. 11, 2012); son Stuart who is attending Purdue University; two sisters, Ellen (Mrs. Brad Jones) of Pearsiburg, Va., and Sandy (Mrs. David Engstrom) of Monroe City.

In lieu of flowers or material expressions of love, please prayerfully consider a memorial gift to a charity of your choice, Dollars for Scholars, or an eternal investment for Camp Illiana or Cristo Vive (in Tijuana, Mexico).

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Odon Christian Church, with internment to follow at Fairview Cemetery of Elnora. Chris Coney and Richard Crabtree will assist in the celebration of Doug’s life. Visitation will be Tuesday at Odon Christian Church at the corner of South Race and Spring streets, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and then from 9 a.m. Wednesday to the hour of services. Arrangements are being made through Poindexter-Hall and McClure Funeral Home.
