WASHINGTON —
Eighth District Congressman Larry Bucshon and Indiana’s Republican National Committeewoman Dee Dee Benkie will headline the Daviess County Republican Party’s annual Lincoln-Reagan Dinner May 3 at the Eastside Park Community Building in Washington.
In his first term in Congress, Bucshon, a Newburgh heart surgeon, has proven to be a true conservative and a leader for Republican values in the 112th Congress. He has championed legislation to help small businesses and foster an environment for job creation, has led the fight to repeal “Obamacare,” and has fought to protect the unborn as evidenced by his 100-percent pro-life voting record, which has earned Bucshon an endorsement from the Indiana Right to Life.
In addition, Bucshon is also a strong supporter of 2nd Amendment rights and has been endorsed by the National Rifle Association.
Benkie is one of two members of the Republican National Committee from Indiana. She is a native of Versailles, Ind., and a former chairwoman of the Young Republicans National Federation. She has appeared on Fox News, where she is now a regular contributor, as well as MSNBC, CBS This Morning and is a frequent commentator on nationally syndicated radio.
Benkie also worked in the White House administration of President George W. Bush after she chaired the Young Professionals for Bush organization during the 2000 campaign. She is one of the leading voices for conservative causes in the country.
The evening begins with a reception at 6 p.m., and the dinner will start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for an individual and $35 for a couple. Tickets are available by calling 486-6422 or emailing daviessrepublicans@gmail.com

IU still working towards sixth banner
Monday night in Atlanta, Louisville won the school’s first National Championship since the year I was born - 1986. This accomplishment is significant to Indiana basketball fans, because the last two times the Cardinals cut down the nets (1980, 1986), the Hoosiers did it the following year. The stat, of course means nothing, other than both schools had strong programs in the 1980s.

In fan fiction, your favorite characters do what you want them to
When J.J. Abrams took over the "Star Trek" franchise in 2009, he boldly went where the series hadn't gone before — romantically — pairing Uhura with Spock. Many fans disliked the change. Some loved it. Others didn't care, because they just wanted to see Kirk and Spock make out.
